Okay, so I assume you’ve all heard of Lex, Bex and Rex. (Dex’s triplet siblings). And you all know about how much stereotypical and judgmental comments stem from this. Multiple births are a rarity in the elvin world and because of this, others are inclined to not only judge the children, but the parents as well. Compare this to the normality we have here in the world. It’s perfectly fine for parents to have triplets or quadruplets for that matter, and in fact, two heads are better than one!
“Twins. Is that a problem?” -Tam Song, Neverseen
You can tell that no-one likes multiple births in the elvin world. But is this really fair? We have seen no evidence from the multiple birth characters that they are less powerful than any other character, in fact, it is the opposite! The Forkle twins are exceptionally powerful telepaths, and managed to work with a secret organization, as well as travel all over the planet. This set of twins are even thought of as the god Loki, in norse mythology. The Song twins? They can both control an element, and seem to be some of the most powerful elves of their age. They were banished because the elves automatically think that multiple births are less than other elves, and would not give them another chance. In this same situation most elves would most likely get a pardon. Rex, Bex and Lex may be constantly annoying to Dex, but there is nothing, at all, stopping them from being the most powerful elves of their age, beside the simple wall of elven prejudice. Even if they do manifest, it will be dismissed as fake, dangerous or weak. The triplets will have to live their entire lives being underestimated, and told that they are not as good as others. Is this a fair way for many children, even incredibly powerful children, to grow up? The occurrences I have described are not unique to these five individuals. All multiple birth children receive the same discriminating treatment, in a society that was supposed to be superior.I think that multiple births are scorned because the elves believe that the “strong, ideal genetics” are diluted, and the same amount of perfection that is meant for one child is split into two. We, the readers, know that this is untrue, and that multiple births are as powerful(or more so) as any other elf. Sadly, multiple births are treated poorly because someone, a long time ago, decided that multiple births do not have ideal genetics, and therefore are not worthy to be counted as perfect member of the society. It could be compared to racism, another idiotic way of separating people by means they cannot control. I sincerely hope that the elves remove their prejudiced way of thin king, and accept the multiple births into society without looking down on them.
