Interview with @catching.lightning_

By @a_shattering_crystal_world

By @lordxhunkyhair

I recently spoke with @catching.lightning_ about the elven matchmaking system. I really appreciate her taking the time to talk to me about this topic. She had some very interesting points in their responses, and I am very happy with this interview! I hope you enjoy it as well!

Q: What is your opinion on matchmaking, and why?

A: Tbh, I completely understand why they have it and I’m kind of glad they do at times. Sometimes I get a little uncomfortable that if you’re a bad match you could be related so I kind of get why they need it.  But I don’t think they should give you a list of your matches. I think that instead of giving you a list of your matches they should give you a list of people who are related to you that you may not know of, that you shouldn’t marry.

Q: How has matchmaking affected the story? Has it been negative or positive?

A: Mmm. I don’t think it’s really impacted it either way yet (except for the dizznee family). I think it’s put a veryyy interesting twist on it. Even if it ends up in some awkward discussions.

Q: Why do you think Sophie has such a hard time with the idea of it? Do you think she should react differently?

A: Ok so I have a really complicated explanation for why Sophie has such a hard time facing it so you guys can cut out some of this but basically it involves the head and heart emotions Keefe talked about in Nightfall. How the head emotions are the surface emotions that aren’t genuine because you can control them and the heart emotions that are hidden and aren’t revealed to you until a certain moment. I’ve written the whole explanation out on my second account @glittery.alicorn.poo but basically I think that Sophie has feelings for Fitz in her head but subconsciously has feelings for Keefe in her heart but she isn’t completely aware because the moment to reveal those emotions hasn’t happened yet. She’s subconsciously wary of matchlists because she isn’t comfortable with the possibility that her head emotions are wrong.

Q: Do you think they will continue to use the system? Or do you think it will be taken away at some point in the story?

A: Tbh I’m pretty sure Sophie is somehow going to get rid of it in the end. Shannon is hinting strongly at it with her speeches on how Sophie is supposed to bring changes to the elvin world. But I think before she does that, her matchless status is going to cause some problems for her and Fitz.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to say about matchmaking?

A: One thing I wanted to point out that I haven’t seen barely anyone notice. Fitz told Sophie that he can’t marry someone who’s not on his match list because he’s a Vacker. When Sophie asked what if she wasn’t on his matchlist he answered “don’t worry you will be.” Keefe said he doesn’t care who’s on his matchlist and he’ll marry who he wants. And then Sophie turned out to be unmatchable so she won’t be on anyone’s matchlist...

I would like to thank @catching.lightning_ again for this opportunity! I hope you enjoyed the interview. Stay tuned for next week!
